Churches and church people do a lot of talking. Too much of it is negative and too much of it is about ourselves. We talk hours about politics or what’s going on in the world. But when was the last time we told people that we were helplessly and hopelessly in love with Jesus Christ?
That is perhaps the most important question to be asked. It is perhaps the reason we do not talk about Him. He no longer is our first love.
The heart of evangelism is summed up in Paul’s words, “Christ’s love compels us …” I have never thought that His love for the world but our love for Him who loves the world is what motivates us to call people to be reconciled for God.
Perhaps before we try to take Jesus into the neighborhood, we have to ask ourselves again, “Are we helplessly and hopelessly in love with Jesus?”
